The supply to the heater core comes from the plastic cooling flange attached to the end of the cylinder head. The return is to the metal pipe that goes to the front of the engine. I have flushed mine by disconnecting both hoses and pouring distilled water into one until it runs out the other.

Either way you should get the same result and once the water is clear coming out one way switch to the other way until the water from that side is also clear.
