Use an old rag towel cut up into small squares and soak it with the Liquid Gold. Then scrub the wood until it is clean. The liquid gold will not harm the gun metal. I have restored old Mauser rifles with dark wood back to pretty nice using Scotts Liquid Gold. And as mentioned ---Do Not Sand with any abrasive !I saw a beautiful Marlin model 60 at a local pawn shop. It's an older one probably from the early 90s. 22 inch barrel with a 14 round tube magazine. No other gun shop I looked in had an older marlin 60. The price is 325 dollars. A new Marlin 60 is around 190 dollars. I've seen a couple older used ones last year for 150.
